Day 35

Day 35. Still no cook hired at work. Day 35 of me, the director doing the cooking for the whole school.

Day 35 shall also be known as the day Suzie the director/cook set a very large pot of rice on fire. Complete with flames and smoke.

And day 35 shall also be known as the day of the tremendous stink.

For those of you who have never set a large pot full of pounds and pounds of rice on fire you are missing out on a very unique smell. The smell is a cross between burnt smell, farts and desperation. It is a smell no matter how you spray or air and area out will never seem to go away.

Its the kind of smell where upon entering the school people stare accusingly at one another and wait for the other to blush.

It is the kind of smell that clings to you and follows you home.

It is the kind of smell that says do not let this women ever cook again. Take away her pot. Take away her serving spoon for the good of mankind.

The smell has spoken...I beg of you people please listen before it is too late.

I also encountered that smell when my Japanese host family let me attempt to cook dinner one night. They very sweetly ate it anyway and politely changed the topic whenever I suggested helping out in the kitchen again.

My dad always said that if you don't do something well - no one will ever ask you to do it again.

35 days!? With unemployment as high as they keep saying it is you'd think it would be easy to find someone for the job.

One time I burned a pot of rice so badly that I ended up having to throw the pot away! No amount of scouring could clean the thing!

I'm glad you're back. Darn that job of yours! I hope you get relief soon!

Is it at all like rotting flesh meets smelly foot? Because I know that smell.

Hey, at least you're trying, right? I would just be making a million sandwiches or cereal or something.

Don't know the smell. I use boil in bag rice. More expensive but worth the convenience when you are cooking for just two.

Use your clout and get someone in there. If you don't people will soon think you like being put upon.

In the meantime, tie a Jolly Rancher strawberry under your nose and keep cooking.

I've gotten the black crust of rice stuck to the pan, but no flames. Impressive!
Hope you get to go back to doing things you enjoy.

any idea when the cook might be hired?

you are a way better trooper than i. those kiddies would have boiled noodles or bread every day. i would never try to cook rice for so many. i can barely cook rice properly for my family of four! god bless you suzie!

There is just something about the smell of burnt rice. *shudder*

Awwww...can't you use your director's power to delegate the cook thing to someone else?

Sorry it went up in flames on you.

Rice Hell.Sounds like you're praying for release. Guess I know what's not on the menu at your house for dinner these days.

Some people will do anything to get out of cooking. ;)

I'm on to you...I can't be fooled...I know you did that on purpose, to get out of having to cook on Day 36, right? ;-)

Since you're the boss, can you fire yourself as the cook?

I think a memo should go home to all parents immediately that tells them to send food with their children.

The smell has spoken...LOL! That was a good one. I'm going to remember that. Hope you guys fire that awful cook and get a new one, LOL! ;)
