You my bloggy comrades you have helped arm me in my quest. Through the reading of royal bloggy comments and your wisdom I now believe my quest is possible.
If what you say is true I need only travel past the forest of horrible endless temper tantrums that seem to involve kicking ones sister with shoes on while knocking everything in ones room onto the floor. Run through the field of midnight screaming fests that wake everyone in the house up including the baby and cause the neighbors to bang on the wall with alarm. Skip over the valley of poopy accidents that caused us to go through every pair of acceptable pjs and began another temper tantrum when my young one had to wear T2's that totally didn't fit. I may eventually find the lake of 2nd and 3rd graders. A place where a screaming mommy may lay down her high pitched angry voice for a while and replace it with slightly naggy but not quiet as loud screamingness.
I hear it may take me and my royal steed another 4-5 years to achieve such a quest but I must believe it will come true.
This weekend I did not think it possible. I was tempted to jump on my royal steed and take off for Vegas or some high tower where the shrieks and refusal to do anything ever for any reason and the constant screaming for ice pops and Mikey mouse Club House from my royal son B would not make me long for a fire breathing dragon to do his worst. But I will go on. Knowing that his constant temper tantrums that last a minimum of 45 minutes each will one day end and I will find that lake and it will be good.
Unless you are all a bunch of fakers and then I will be very very upset indeed.

My the force be with you on your quest. :)
Not to scare you, but my daughter had tantrums until she was 11.
Tantrums are normal of course, but when they are too frequent or last too long, or go on until the child is mature enough to communicate his or her needs, there may be other issues. We are now seeing a psychologists to help our daughter with her hysterical episodes.
I'm not suggesting this is the case with your kids, just saying...I feel for ya. Really.
God speed, my humble bloggy friend.
Things were so bad when my kids were that age that I was medicated. Heavily. They grew out of it and I am free of the the meds. The key lay in making sure I didn't turn into a maniac along with them. I wanted to teach them proper coping skills and help them transition into the next developmental stage. But what the other commenter said is true: If it goes on endlessly, you need to seek some more answers.
Behold, it will come to pass as you have said. And then will come...adolescence!
My eldest had tantrums if someone so much as offered him a banana. Screamed at night until he was four so that the neighbours knocked on the door suspecting child abuse. Once he started kindergarten it started to peter out. All my kids are wonderful students and people and they make me proud now.
I know what it must feel like for you - like sending them on a one way trip to Australia - no kidding it will pass...
I'm walking that same journey with you, and man, I am TIRED of all the walking!!! =S
I am on the same journey......screaming for Thomas the Tank, night terrors, etc.
I can see the light!!
Maybe you can send a link to your blog to "SuperNanny" and she will come in and take over....and you will get to be on TV.
You and your royal steed are in for the long haul. Good luck.
Don't forget to pack alcohol. And chocolate. Lots of it. You'll need it on this quest.
theres always the dungeon or of course off with their heads.
Yes, it WILL get better.
Ummm, my whiny baby sister still has tantrums! She's 47!
Yeah - I'm with you. That sounds like some kind of urban legend to me...
It will get better. Then it will get worse again. Then better, and so on. May your noble steed carry you well as you make your quest.
If it didn't pass, I think there would be a lot more single dads out there :-P
Do you have flower petals to sprinkle while you skip? Because I think they would add to the whole experience.
Yes, you will survive. The big reward comes with the grandchildren. It's amazing how cute little tantrum-throwers are when they aren't your own.
I've just completed a book, Temper Tantrum Common Sense Handbook, that lists plenty of ways to prevent, stop, and live with tantrums.
Although most children go through a tantrum stage when they have a vocabulary of about 100 or 200 words, some tantrums are caused by allergies. Whether it's an inhaled or consumed allergen, the child doesn't feel well, loses sleep, is irritable and ripe for the slightest thing to be upsetting enough to cause a tantrum. There are, obviously, countless other reasons for tantrums and then, no apparent reason (at least not a reasonable reason).
Temper Tantrum Common Sense Handbook also goes through the "be prepared" aspects of shopping, traveling, dining out, and other places that seem to be tantrum magnets.
The book is ideal for anyone -- parent, relative, daycare operator, teacher, flight attendant -- who deals with and loves children.
It is available at www.TuffTurtle.com/tantrums.htm.

People were telling me at a baby shower this weekend that Cakes will outgrow her naughtiness, and will probably be a very calm teenager.
I don't know if I buy that or not, but it gives me the strength to carry on.
Well holy crap, Suzie, I hope you're gonna FILM this damned quest. I wanna front row seat, chiccy. I think I'm going to be a repeat offender here. See you at my place and don't be shy.
There is light at the end of this tunnel Suzie - just how long is the tunnel, that is the question! Someday you might actually miss these days...
I promise it WILL indeed get better!
hey all have a tantrum in their own silly sort of a way. Well mine do!
Well, I'm currently fighting the "having-two-boys-in-one-room-both-in-big-boy-beds" fight. If they're both in there together its constant giggle and wrestle-fest. If I take one away (which also results in the biggest tears possible) then the little guy stays in his bed and goes to sleep just fine. ARRRGGGG!!!
Wanna swap problems? ;-)
its a tough decade... the one where you shelve your life completely and operate as a life support system for a whole bunch of others. Fortunately one is often blissfully unaware how absent your own life is until halfway through.
Keep em alive and the first bit of peace and quiet you get will be as good as a club med vacation. Keep the expectations low and when the increments of your life come back it will be like an unexpected present every single day!
i'm new to your blog and enjoying... so hang in there for me!
It will get better...at least that's what I say while rocking back and forth in the fetal position.
It gets better, then worse again, then better, then worse...and then they reach adolescence and parenting is new all over again.
But I do hear that grandparenting is awesome!
