My New House Guests

Last night I was up at 3:30am nursing S in the semi darkness when i began to hear a scratching sound coming from the bathroom. I looked around and seeing nothing closed my eyes and tried to catnap but the noise got louder I opened my eyes and there they were two little grey mice sitting in front of me watching me nurse.

Being a rational person I thought it would be best to skip repulsed and jump right to panic. I clutched little S to my chest and slowly pulled my feet up onto the couch while chanting my hubby's name. S noting the change in my voice began to cry. Feeling as though the mice might pull out little switch blades and mug us for our crackers I got more vigilant in my calling. The mice although slightly put out by my yelling seemed unimpressed and looked at each other and shrugged as if to say what's with this lady an began to run around my apartment.

Giving up on my husband I began to call for my dog who came over sniffed the visitors and noting they were not made of peanut butter or any other delicacy then bravely huffed and went back to sleep.

Finally the mice ran out of view and I valiantly grabbed my baby and ran to my husband who after a lot of "Huh what?" and other kinds of deep and spiritual questions commented that he had heard them scuffling around for the last few weeks.

Great! As they seem to be our new house guests maybe tonight I'll get a little tea set and and invite them over for scones.

we have a beagle -- they are supposed to be bred to hunt small pests/rodents. several times we've had mice scurrying around and he just looks at us like, "are they made out of kibble? then i don't think so!"

I am so grossed out by traps. I can't stand the idea of a little mouse getting hurt but I cant stand the idea of mice running on my babies. I hate when this happens.I get all bogged down with little hurt mice pictures in my head. ARghhhhh!

Eeeeek! I'd be scurrying right onto the table. Of course, they could jump up there, too, but I'd still feel safer. We had to set traps in our attic not too long ago. It's kinda gross, but it's worth it.

We have mice at work, and they like to menace the receptionist when she goes into the back to pump for her baby.

"Whatever you do, don't put out Decon! Then the little buggers will eat it and crawl in your walls/floor/somewhere unreachable to die and the place will reak of small furry death" says the Voice of Experience.

have you tried those sonic things that you plug into an outlet? they work pretty well (except that we have a very old farmhouse and only have so many plugs). I hate to put down yucky stuff with little ones running amock (my kids not the mice!)

Yuck! Cant I just pretend I never saw them and hope they will go away?
